Colletes kincaidii, f, face, Grant Co., Hyannis, NE

Another mid-summer Colletes from the central prairies. Note the "cute" face with the inner edges of the eyes converging towards the mouth. For some reason this automatically makes a bee cute compared to the standard bee face format that most species display. I am note sure of the preferences of this species but many Colletes use pollen from only a small number of plants. Biodiversity ...check. Pictures by Anders Croft.

We Are Made One with What We Touch and See

We are resolved into the supreme air,

We are made one with what we touch and see,

With our heart's blood each crimson sun is fair,

With our young lives each spring impassioned tree

Flames into green, the wildest beasts that range

The moor our kinsmen are, all life is one, and all is change.
