In drydock
Built by Gebr van Diepen, Netherlands in 1917, the 3 masted steel hull schooner De Wadden is now undergoing conservation in the Canning Graving Docks, Liverpool. In 1922 she was sold to Richard Hall of Southern Ireland. Between 1922 and 1961 De Wadden worked between Liverpool and various Irish ports. The ship's main motive power was originally an inboard 125 hp Stey Wal diesel engine. Sails were used to support the diesel engine when necessary. The Stey Wal was replaced by an 80 hp Bolinder supported by a 50 hp Kelvin followed by a 150 hp Crossley in 1942 and 450 hp Caterpillar in 1980. De Wadden was the last working sailing vessel on the River Merseyside. Original public domain image from Flickr
