Long a trading interface between Navajos and white settlers, the post was purchased by John Lorenzo Hubbell in 1878 — ten years after Navajos were allowed to return to the Ganado region from their U.S.-imposed exile in Bosque Redondo, near Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
