Kentucky Lock Addition Project

Concrete is placed in the Land Wall side of monolith U1, center right, Nov. 5, 2013 at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Kentucky Lock Addition project in Grand Rivers, Ky. The lower elevation of monolith U1 contains the intakes for the new 110 by 1,200-foot lock’s culvert system that allows water to flow from the lake into the lock chamber and also be discharged into the river below. Raising and lowering the water level in the lock chamber makes navigating the lock possible. With efficient funding beginning in fiscal 2014 and continuing, construction of this huge project could be completed in 2019, according to Adam Walker, Nashville District project manager.
