Crystal-clear Crater Lake in Klamath County, Oregon. Rather than the typical lake fed by incoming streams and thus occluded by silt and pollution, this is a 1,900-foot-deep caldera formed 7,700 years ago when a massive volcano collapsed. Its waters, collected from rainfall and snowmelt in this high country, are said to be purer than filtered tapwater.
