Captain Axel W. Pearson, war shipping representative in 1942 to Murmansk and Archangel reported: "I never saw such courage as our seamen have. They've got the same spirit those Russians have." Captain Pearson, Swedish-born American, for many years master of U.S. merchant ships, tells in his report to War Shipping Administration how he was attacked three times by air and submarine on his trip from America to Murmansk and experienced day and night bombings by the Germans during his four-month stay at the Russian ports. Captain Pearson is now a War Shipping Administration port captain for San Pedro, California. Sourced from the Library of Congress.
