Conversion. Electric shaver plant. This Norton type C six-inch semi-automatic cylindrical grinder in a New England plant normally turns out these motor shafts for the firm's electric shavers. It has since been converted to the grinding of spring collets that are used in machine tools being produced to aid the war production effort. The conversion was easily accomplished by replacing the one-inch vitrified aluminum oxide wheel shown here with a three-inch wheel and by enlarging the feed of grinding solution. In this operation normal tolerance is desired (see pix #D-2975). Schick Inc., Stamford, Connecticut. Sourced from the Library of Congress.
